Is there a “weight of health”? Or a “normal” weight?
A healthy weight, or normal weight, means that your body mass index is in a weight range which is not associated with an increased risk of healthy diseases and health problems.This indicator is called BMI (body mass index).
Body mass index
The body mass index is determined by size and weight.The BMI does not measure body fat, but it is often correlated: a higher BMI tends to indicate higher body fat, and vice-and-versa.
- Weight insufficiency means a BMI less than 18.5
- Healthy or normal weight means a BMI between 18.5 and 24.9
- Overweight means a BMI between 25 and 29.9
- Obesity is a BMI greater than 30
The BMI is the weight divided by the square size (BMI = weight/size²), the size being expressed in meters. For example, a weight of 80 kg for one meter sixty corresponds to a BMI of 80/1.6²
80/1.6 × 1.6 = 80/2.56 = 31.2 This person is considered in obesity.
